The Hardy Boys: The Hidden Theft Hints

How can I help Iola make aspirin?

  • 1 of 17: Listen to what Iola told you. She said that the end result wasn't important, but the knowledge of the process was.
  • 2 of 17: So, we aren't going to need to give her a little white pill to cure a headache. We're going to need to prove that we (or she) know the chemical structure of aspirin.
  • 3 of 17: Where might we find such information?
  • 4 of 17: Head into the science lab.
  • 5 of 17: Take a look at the small diagram on the back wall near the counter-top. There's a chemical formula and diagram for the arrangement of particles in aspirin (or salicylic acid) there.
  • 6 of 17: Copy that diagram down, you'll need it again.
  • 7 of 17: Now find a place to "assemble" the particles to "make" some aspirin.
  • 8 of 17: See the structure on the teacher's desk at the front of the room?
  • 9 of 17: That's your playfield. Make the aspirin here.
  • 10 of 17: See the small text on the base of the structure? It says that White = Hydrogen, Red = Carbon, and Yellow = Nitrogen.
  • 11 of 17: We know from the diagram that aspirin contains only C's and H's. Carbon, and Hydrogen.
  • 12 of 17: Place the red and white spheres on the tray onto the structure to mimic the arrangement of particles in aspirin.
  • 13 of 17: The upper-left space needs a RED sphere.
  • 14 of 17: The upper-right, lower-left, and lower-right spaces all need WHITE spheres.
  • 15 of 17: The hexagon of six spaces in the middle is all made of carbon, so use six RED spheres in each of those spaces.
  • 16 of 17: That leaves just one, directly below the hexagonal shape. It's an H, so shove one more WHITE sphere in that space.
  • 17 of 17: Once you've completed the puzzle correctly, the boys will remark that it is finished.
