Half-Life: Blue Shift Hints
I managed to mash the military at the Freight Yard! But now what?
of 12: Good question.
of 12: Have you gone around and broken open all the boxes?
of 12: That's a nice, big mounted gun in the green box, huh?
of 12: Anyway, this is another "rescue the scientist in the red freight car so the military will voluntarily open a door for you" routine.
of 12: The catch to this one is that two big round spools of thread (or whatever) are in the way.
of 12: You need to shoot out the wooden wedges holding them in place.
of 12: Once both spools are out of the way, walk up to the freight car door to open it and free the scientist.
of 12: Now, when you go back toward the big "Freight Car Storage Yard Access" door, it'll open up, and several goons will run in and start shootin'.
of 12: Don't even try to shoot them with the big mounted machine gun; they'll easily dodge it, fan out, and start blasting you.
of 12: You could start shooting them and then retreat back inside the building, but these guys aren't very alert.
of 12: Believe it or not, all you have to do is stay out of their direct line of sight as you run toward the door that they open. They'll run straight forward without looking behind them or to the side.
of 12: That makes it easy to sneak past them and into the tunnel that leads to the next big military area (the one with the tank).
