Half-Life: Opposing Force Hints
How do I defeat the geneworm?
of 17: The geneworm is a very powerful monster. It will take awhile to defeat it.
of 17: Contemplate on where the vulnerable areas of the geneworm are.
of 17: Check out its eyes. They are begging to be shot at.
of 17: However, standard weapons won't hurt them. You need something a bit more piercing.
of 17: Two lasers have been mounted on opposite sides of the upper catwalk. Try using them.
of 17: The lasers will slice through the eyes of the monster, temporarily blinding it.
of 17: Run out into the monster's line of sight until he starts spitting radioactive gas. Duck back into cover. Then once he's done, run back out and towards the particular laser you want to get at. If the monster starts to lunge at you, back away before he hits you.
of 17: Once you shoot out one of the eyes, the monster will get angry and start tearing apart the room.
of 17: Once you have shot out both eyes, the monster will writhe in pain, exposing his vulnerable stomach.
of 17: Once the stomach is open, you need to shoot its vulnerable back wall. Many people think you shoot the energy orb in there, but that's not true. If you just try to shoot the orb, you may do so without hitting the vulnerable back wall of the stomach, and end up doing no damage.
of 17: If you are hitting the back of the stomach, the monster should soon roar and rear way back. When it does, stop shooting since you've scored one vital hit (out of a necessary four) and can do no further damage until you shoot its two eyes out again.
of 17: Note that the easiest way to hit the back of the monster's stomach is to be on the left side of the room when it opens up, and to shoot into the stomach with your SAW machine gun (or RPG, spore launcher, etc.) from a spot to the right of the laser emplacement. If you're on the room's right side, try moving back a ways on the catwalk before shooting.
of 17: After you make a vital hit against the geneworm, dispose of the shocktrooper and then repeat the process of shooting out the monster's eyes and taking aim at the back of its stomach. Remember that you need four vital hits to destroy it and win the game.
of 17: When the monster breaks through the upper-level catwalk, you will have to start using your barnacle to get across to the far laser. Some alien moss has attached itself on top of the platform with the far laser on it. The barnacle can latch on to that moss and pull you across.
of 17: If you need health, there is a health pool in the room right next to the main room. Climb up the rope and stand in the health pool until you are fully healed.
of 17: If you need armor, go back through the button-opened door and use the pushable barrel to get to the little door with the black and yellow stripes around it. There are two armor batteries past it.
of 17: It is also easier to lure the spawned shocktrooper into the room with the health pool in it since the geneworm cannot reach you there.
