Half-Life: Opposing Force Hints
What's this strange new weapon that a falling scientist "gave" me?
1 of 5: It's a displacer.
2 of 5: Its regular fire mode can be used to hit powerful monsters with powerful blasts. It's similar in nature and power to a voltigore's huge electrical blast (as you'll find out before long). If you've played DOOM and Quake, think BFG.
3 of 5: Its secondary fire mode can displace you (without injury) to a small area (usually in the border world) that sometimes has a bit of armor, health, etc.
4 of 5: The area that you're displaced to depends not just on what chapter of the game you're in, but what section of that chapter. Always save your game before displacing yourself. Some areas are 100% fatal, and some just aren't worth the 60% battery charge that diplacement costs.
5 of 5: If you use it now, you'll end up in the jump-crouch practice room of Half-Life's hazard course. (Probably not worth it, but do investigate just for the fun of it, then restore your saved game.)
