Half-Life: Opposing Force Hints
How do I survive the self-destructing room?
of 18: First and foremost, you have to get things started by making a run at the door opposite the door you entered from.
of 18: This triggers the initiation of the room's destruction.
of 18: Next, you need to figure out a way to remain on dry land.
of 18: Notice where the electrical bolts are originating from and which portion of the room seems to be destroyed first. Don't stand there.
of 18: Instead, move in the opposite direction of the destruction. The wall off to your left when you first walk into the room is the safest bet.
of 18: Hang back against the wall and wait.
of 18: Two things will happen:
of 18: First, radioactive waste will begin flooding the room.
of 18: And second, portions of the catwalks above you will break and hang down.
of 18: Quickly jump onto the fallen catwalk and move up into the ceiling structures.
of 18: There are two doors level with the various ceiling structures that you can reach.
of 18: The one closest to the fallen catwalk is locked. You will have to make your way around ceiling supports and structural beams to reach the other door.
of 18: Unfortunately, it too is locked.
of 18: But wait; someone is in the control room that this door leads into.
of 18: Peculiar; it is the Administrator. Good old Briefcase Bastard himself! I'm sure you remember him from Half-Life.
of 18: Maybe he will let you through.
of 18: He'll take his time before unlocking the door, and by the time you can get to where he is, he will have vanished. Fortunately, he has saved you from the imminent death you would have experienced.
of 18: But only because you're his latest patsy, and he needs you to destroy a big, hideous monster from Xen, just like good old Gord did.
