Half-Life: Opposing Force Hints
How do I get out of the furnace's maintenance area?
of 13: Once you make your dangerous run out of the furnace itself, you will step into a room that is used for maintenance.
of 13: However, it is currently being used by several regular and advanced zombies. Deal with them and then begin looking for a way out.
of 13: One of the open pipes does not shoot out fire at regular intervals.
of 13: Peculiar; some signs near it warn not to obstruct the "test flame."
of 13: Furthermore, a button appears in front of the pipe allowing you to fire a test flame. Give it a try.
of 13: That flameburst comes in handy.
of 13: Did you notice that every box nearby is explosive?
of 13: They say, when all else fails, read the instructions. I say, when all else fails, ignore the instructions.
of 13: I'm sure if you used one of the explosive boxes to obstruct the test flame, the chain-reaction explosion might knock open a way out.
of 13: A single, white explosive box is light enough to be moved.
of 13: Move it into the test flame pipe.
of 13: Fire the test flame to get things going.
of 13: Sure enough, the chain reaction initiated by the test flame explosion blows open an exit in the floor. Climb down and into the next section of the game.
