Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints

How does perfume analysis work?

  • 1 of 10: Start by clicking on the stack of small papers that are near the top left corner of the book page.
  • 2 of 10: Click the paper you picked up on the perfume you want to analyze. This will cause an odd shape to appear over the bowl.
  • 3 of 10: Click on the shape to learn that it represents the essence of the perfume, and that you need to recreate it.
  • 4 of 10: You do that by using the colorful puzzle pieces that are arranged into two groups.
  • 5 of 10: First, look at the base of the perfume shape, then find the same shape among the set of base shapes that goes along the bottom of the screen.
  • 6 of 10: Click on the base shape you think is right to put it in the blank space that's above the base shapes, then see about adding in two shapes from along the left side of the screen.
  • 7 of 10: With those, you'll have to click on them to pick them up, then drag them over and drop them in place.
  • 8 of 10: Note that the pieces will have to "fit" the base in a jigsaw-like way. This fact will help you eliminate possibilities.
  • 9 of 10: For instance, if you chose the orange "oil" piece as a base, you could only fit four of the other pieces onto it, namely "resin oil," "rose nectar," "foot oil," and "dog musk." The other four pieces won't fit onto that base.
  • 10 of 10: Whenever you get one right, a green checkmark will replace the red question mark on the perfume bottle.
