Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints
How do I set the options on the murder reenactment correctly?
of 14: First, click on the "Help" icon that's near the top right corner of the screen to get a description of how this whole thing works.
of 14: Then look at the options that are shown along the bottom of the screen to the left of the big "Play" button to see what all needs to be set. (Note that the "Help" icon's pop-up window explains each option a bit.)
of 14: To figure out how to set all the options, you could use the clues you've gathered so far, but it's usually more helpful to get Holmes' feedback on the current settings.
of 14: To do that, hit the big "Play" button, then see what Holmes says. Press the "Stop" button, then adjust the settings accordingly.
of 14: For instance, if you hit "Play" on this reenactment without changing any settings, Holmes will say that if the murderer used his right hand, there wouldn't be much room.
of 14: So after hitting "Stop," click on the middle option selector to switch to using the left hand. Hit "Play" again to see that the left hand is right ... uh, correct.
of 14: Since Holmes doesn't say anything is wrong with the reenactment now, then it must all be correct. However, you're not done yet, since there are actually two reenactments that need to be done.
of 14: If you'll remember from the game's opening cut-scene, ol' Jack did a choking number on Polly before he got busy with his trademark "ripper" knife.
of 14: She was standing up at the time, so change the first option from "lying position" to "stand up," then hit "Play" to see what Holmes has to say about that.
of 14: He notes that the knife wasn't used when the victim was standing, so switch the second option from "knife" to "bare hands."
of 14: Holmes then says that the position is unlikely, but if you try all three settings on the final option (Jack's position), none of them will seem to be right.
of 14: What's actually wrong is that you need to switch the middle option back to the right hand. Once you do that, you should get Holmes to agree with your settings.
of 14: To summarize, here are the five settings you need for each of the two reenactments. Note that you can do them in either order.
* lying position, knife, left hand, neck, direct facing (red arrow to right of head) * stand up, bare hands, right hand, neck, direct facing (red arrow to right of head)
of 14: After you get both reenactments done, you'll be switched to the deduction board.
