Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints

How can I set the motives board correctly?

  • 1 of 13: Note that five possible motives are listed, and each one has a "No" tacked to the left of it.
  • 2 of 13: You can change a "No" to a "Yes" (and back to a "No") by simply clicking on it. However, finishing the board isn't that simple.
  • 3 of 13: You'll need to provide a related fact for each motive, chosen from the set of five facts tacked to the bottom half of the board.
  • 4 of 13: For instance, the first fact is "The victim suffered horrible mutilations." Which motive(s) might that go with?
  • 5 of 13: It could reasonably go with either revenge or madness, so see if you can find a similar fact.
  • 6 of 13: The last one, "Resentment can lead to irreparable acts," seems to fit the revenge motive most closely, so the first fact would go with madness.
  • 7 of 13: Click on those two facts to pick them up, then place them in the blanks to the right of their motives.
  • 8 of 13: TIP: Instead of reasoning it out, you could just pick up a fact and try it in fact slots until you get a comment from Holmes, which indicates that you've correctly placed it.
  • 9 of 13: After they're all placed, decide which ones you want to mark "Yes."
  • 10 of 13: This is pretty easy to figure out. If you pick up a motive's fact and put it back down again, Holmes will give you a clue.
  • 11 of 13: Read on if you want to know the exact Yes/No answers.
  • 12 of 13: Revenge: Yes
    Love: No
    Theft: No
    Madness: Yes
    Black Magic: Yes
  • 13 of 13: Once all the reasons and Yes/No's are correctly set, the board will be finished.
