Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints
How can I carry out the knife-usage experiment?
1 of 13: After talking to Holmes to hand over the two knives you picked up, click the hand cursor on the table with the sows' heads to bring up the experiment screen.
2 of 13: Notice that you have three sows' heads shown, each with an experiment label above it. Click on a label to start that experiment.
3 of 13: You'll get a magnified view of a sow's head, plus a photo of the throat of the victim that goes with that experiment.
4 of 13: Your task is to figure out which of the four knives pictured at the bottom left of the screen is most likely to have been used by the woman's killer.
5 of 13: Click on a knife and then use it like a pencil to "draw" a slit on the pig's throat.
6 of 13: You can try to trace out the same wounds that are shown on the woman's throat, but there's no need to. Just make sure the slit is a long one that goes from one side of the throat to the other.
7 of 13: To figure out if the current knife is a possibility for the woman's murder, compare the look of the slit you made on the pig's throat to the one on the woman's throat. Also, note any comments Holmes has when you put the knife back down.
8 of 13: After trying each knife, click on the checkbox to the left of its slot if you think it's a possible murder weapon.
9 of 13: Once you try all four knives and get the right checkboxes checked, Holmes will say "Elementary!", and you can move on to the next experiment.
10 of 13: See below for the correct knife choice answers, remembering that you have to make a long slit across the pig's throat with each knife before Holmes will pay any attention to what you've checked off.
11 of 13: After you finish the last experiment, return to the main experiment screen and decide which of the four knives is most likely the one used by the killer.
12 of 13: That should be obvious from the fact that only one of the four knives was a possibility in all three of your experiments.
13 of 13: The bottom knife (the big 13-inch one) is the one to choose, so pick it up from the set near the bottom right corner of the screen, and put it in the empty box to the left.
