Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints
General Tips
1 of 8: These hints are organized around the major events that happen, and the investigations that Holmes and Watson conduct, during the course of the game. Some of the major hint divisions contain subdivisions that each have a list of questions, while some only have a question list without any subdivisions.
2 of 8: The hints won't mention every single item that you can find, since many of them are optional. Usually, only items that are essential to progressing on your investigation will be mentioned. If you find something important-looking that the hints don't ever refer to, it won't really be useful, and you don't need to worry about it.
3 of 8: Since this is a Sherlock Holmes game, there's a major emphasis on finding and analyzing clues. Some clues are very hard to spot at a casual glance, so it's always important to carefully look around all available areas for hotspots. Remember that the action cursor for a hotspot usually won't appear unless you're close to it and looking more or less straight at it. (Though you can press the SPACEBAR to briefly mark all nearby hotspots, which can be very helpful.)
5 of 8: Evidence gathering is the most important thing you'll be doing, but you also occasionally need to talk to someone to learn something important, and there are a few adventure-game-type puzzles scattered throughout, just to keep you on your toes.
6 of 8: Many clues and conversations will add entries to the various sections of your case notebook. Check it frequently for information, especially when Holmes wants you to do something that requires the use of clues, such as a murder reenactment or organizing a deduction board.
7 of 8: You can sometimes skip the current portion of a dialogue by clicking the left mouse button or the ESC key. However, some conversations are immune to those keys.
8 of 8: You should save frequently, especially since the game has an occasional glitch that makes it impossible to save a game, and the only way to fix it is to exit and rerun the game.
