Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints

How can I open the transcripts' envelope after I get it?

  • 1 of 14: Holmes wants to do it sneakily, without tearing it open or otherwise making it obvious that someone has opened it.
  • 2 of 14: You know the old cliché about steaming envelopes open, right? Look around for a way to make some steam.
  • 3 of 14: The stove over near Bulling's desk could provide the heat if you could come up with a container and some water.
  • 4 of 14: Look on the floor between the big plant and the director's office door to find a watering can with some water in it.
  • 5 of 14: Holmes won't let you put the watering can on the stove, so look for another container to heat the water in.
  • 6 of 14: Look a ways to the right of the stove to find an empty teapot on top of a set of drawers.
  • 7 of 14: Combine that in inventory with the watering can to transfer the water to the teapot.
  • 8 of 14: Now select the teapot and click on the stove to place it.
  • 9 of 14: But no steam is forthcoming! What could be wrong?
  • 10 of 14: If you'll remember, the stove's fire was almost out when you got the torn blotting paper from it earlier. It's gone cold by now.
  • 11 of 14: You're going to have to relight it. Thankfully, you still have your book of matches in inventory.
  • 12 of 14: Click on the front of the stove to open it, then select the matches in inventory and click on the open stove to light it.
  • 13 of 14: Click on the stove again to close it, then wait for the steam to start coming out of the teapot.
  • 14 of 14: After it does, select the envelope in inventory and click on the steam to steam it open.
