Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints
How can I figure out the last three ledger letters?
of 8: By using the names Lester and Murel from the pages on the left.
of 8: The catch with them is that they don't have a letter-by-letter analysis -- only the final number and Hebrew name.
of 8: Let's use the name Murel, since no letters are combined (like Ai or Th are) when translating it to Hebrew.
of 8: Keep in mind that Hebrew names are written in right-to-left order. To confirm this, notice that the rightmost letter in the Hebrew form of Murel has a value of 40, which we know from the Hammer translation corresponds to the English letter M.
of 8: So the second-from-right symbol in Murel's Hebrew name must correspond to the letter U. Checking the ledgers, you'll find the same symbol on the fourth-from-left ledger, so label it with the English letter U.
of 8: We already have R labeled, but how about E?
of 8: The second-from-left symbol in Murel's Hebrew name must correspond to the letter E, and that symbol appears on the second-from-right ledger. So label it with the letter E.
of 8: Now we only have one symbol left, the leftmost one in Murel's Hebrew name. It appears on the only still-unlabeled ledger, and clearly corresponds to the letter L, so label the final ledger L.
