Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Hints

How can I rig up the bucket and cans as a good distraction?

  • 1 of 14: You'll need to have it rigged so that it'll be making noise in one room while you're in another room.
  • 2 of 14: Notice that you have a candlestick and some thin rope-like clothesline. Does that suggest anything to you?
  • 3 of 14: Think delayed "detonation."
  • 4 of 14: What if you tied one end of the clothesline to the bucket, the other end to something sturdy, and then set the candlestick so it'd burn through the clothesline slowly? That'd give you time to get to another room before the "detonation" (noise).
  • 5 of 14: If you think about it, you'll realize that you need the bucket to be suspended a ways above the floor, so that it'll make a good, loud sound when the clothesline burns through and drops it.
  • 6 of 14: Remember those interactive wires on the ceiling of the room with the cellar stairs? Try using the clothesline on them.
  • 7 of 14: That doesn't work. How might you tie the wires together and make a nice spot for the line to hang?
  • 8 of 14: How about that big hook?
  • 9 of 14: Use it on the hanging wires to get it tied to them, then use the clothesline on the hook to hang it.
  • 10 of 14: Now you need to find somewhere to tie the other end of the line. Somewhere that would make it possible to set up the candlestick right under the line.
  • 11 of 14: If you use SPACEBAR and look around, you'll find a hotspot on a post a ways to the right of the openable door.
  • 12 of 14: Click on the post to get the line tied to it.
  • 13 of 14: Now select the bucket and click on the dangling end of the line to get it set up there.
  • 14 of 14: To place the candlestick, select it and click on the hotspot on the post where the line is tied. Gimmick complete!
