Save Often
It is important that you save your game often. If something goes drastically wrong, you can always revert back to the previous saved game.
Also, you should trade off between two or more saved games. For example, before an epidemic, save as "Game 1". After the epidemic, save as "Game 2". If something occurs after the epidemic (for example, your reputation was hurt too much), you can load "Game 1" and start over from there. This gives you some ability to undo. You probably won't need to use all 8 of your saved game slots, though.
