Theme Hospital Hints
One of the members of my staff is threatening to quit!
of 8: Depending who is threatening to quit, you should decide whether or not to fire him/her first.
of 8: If you only have two surgeons, and one who is working in the middle of an emergency or epidemic is threatening to quit, you should pay him whatever he wants. (Trust me, this happens all too often.) You can always hire a new surgeon and fire the over-paid surgeon later.
of 8: If it is one of your many handymen who wants an absurd amount of money and is just wandering around, then you should fire him.
of 8: But the best thing to do is not to get yourself in this position in the first place.
of 8: To do this, check the Staff Management screen. Those with low morale will soon come demanding a raise.
of 8: The easy way out is to raise the person's pay or give them a ten percent bonus. Both should show instant results but will cost you a little more each month. Also, this is only a temporary solution.
of 8: The way to keep your staff from losing morale on a more permanent basis is to keep them properly rested. A good way to so this is by changing the "Go To Staff Room" settings in the Hospital Policy screen.
of 8: Be careful, though, because surgeons and psychiatrists will often stay in their respective rooms even when there are no patients waiting and even if their "Go To Staff Room" level is reached. Therefore they won't go to the staff room and their morale will quickly drop.
