A Sample Party

  • Following is my list of six characters that I found to be the most effective in liberally squishing bad guys. I won't give exact ability scores, but rather a range in which you'll want your stats. (Of course, for some, you're going to want an 18/19 no matter what.) For more info on stats, see the appropriate section in General Strategies. Also, gender is utterly unimportant to this game, so I won't include them. Set them as you see fit...

    Character 1: Largely an in Fighter, but usually hangs back a bit to cast spells.
    Fighter/Mage, Half-Elf
    Prof In: Large Swords*2, Spears, Long Bow
    Str: 17-18 (100)
    Dex: 15-18
    Con: 16
    Wis: Not necessary, so sap points from it to increase other stats
    Int: 18
    Cha: 8-12, feel free to sap some points, though you'll want at least one character with halfway-decent charisma

    Character 2: All out Fighter, lotsa HP, big muscles... SHORT
    Fighter, Dwarf
    Prof In: Axe*2, Large Swords, Missile Weapons
    Str: 18-18 (100)
    Dex: 15-18
    Con: 19 ...You'll want the HP
    Wis: Not important, sap it for points
    Int: Once again, unimportant
    Cha: Unimportant

    Character 3: The primary healer. Doesn't engage in combat TOO often, but capable if pressed.
    Cleric, Half-Elf
    Prof In: Mace or Flail, Missile Weapons
    Str: 13-18
    Dex: 15-17
    Con: 15-16 (Not really important, but useful if you can get it)
    Wis: 18
    Int: Unimportant
    Cha: Unimportant

    Character 4: More of an close-in fighter than the Cleric, hence a higher STR and DEX
    Druid, Human
    Prof In: Scimitar or Staff, Missile Weapons
    Str: 15-18
    Dex: 13-18
    Con: 16
    Wis: 18
    Int: Unimportant
    Cha: Unimportant

    Character 5: Standard Mage. Try to keep this one out of combat, or at least protected
    Mage, Elf
    Prof In: Staff or Dagger
    Str: >7
    Dex: 13-19, the higher the better, and the harder to hit.
    Con: No more than 16
    Wis: Unimportant
    Int: 18
    Cha: Unimportant

    Character 6: Comic relief character, I suppose.  I did need a Thief, though...
    Illusionist/Thief, Gnome
    Prof In: Dagger or Small Swords, or Missile Weapons
    Str: >10
    Dex: 18
    Con: >8
    Wis: Unimportant
    Int: 19
    Cha: Unimportant
