Icewind Dale II Hints

Help Emma Moonblade recover her sword.

  • 1 of 12: Emma Moonblade is the person who teleports in and helps you in the initial orc battle in the woods area. Talk to her after the battle is over to get this quest.
  • 2 of 12: Vrek, the troll who stole her blade, is holed up in a cave in the very NE corner of the woods area.
  • 3 of 12: To get to the cave, you have to pass through Torak's camp. You'll have to deal with Torak and the imprisoned villagers before you can make it to Vrek's cave.
  • 4 of 12: Once Torak's camp is cleared out, follow the trail leading off north of it to get to the entrance to Vrek's cave.
  • 5 of 12: You can explore around to find several tough monsters and some piles of loot, but all you need to do is make your way straight to the SE corner room where Vrek and his orcish pals hang out.
  • 6 of 12: When Vrek initiates conversation with you, talk to him to find out what his insidious plan is before inciting him to attack. That gets you more XP.
  • 7 of 12: To kill Vrek, you'll need to hit him with some powerful attacks, preferably with magical weapons.
  • 8 of 12: If you lack magic weapons, you can buy some from Arte after rescuing the villagers. Also, you can quickly grab the Moonblade of Selune from the treasure chest in Vrek's room and equip it.
  • 9 of 12: Once Vrek is almost dead and lying on the ground, you'll need to finish him off with a bit of fire or acid. If nothing else, stand back and toss one of the bottles of flaming oil from Emma on him.
  • 10 of 12: NOTE: If you find being surrounded in that room by Vrek and his orcish minions too overpowering, you can try running back the way you came to spread them out behind you and take them on a few at a time. Watch out for other monsters you didn't kill earlier joining the battle.
  • 11 of 12: After Vrek and his minions are all dead, take the Moonblade of Selune from Vrek's treasure chest if you haven't already, then leave the cave.
  • 12 of 12: When you return to Emma and say that you've recovered her blade, you can thank her for her reward to get 2,000 gold coins, or you can refuse her reward if you saved Dereth and Sabrina in the ford area and the villagers in this area. You'll get more XP by refusing the reward, and you can keep the sword, too!
