1 of 2: As page 24 of the manual says in a small, easy-to-miss section, pressing and holding the ALT key periodically is a good idea since it can help you find hard-to-see items of treasure. Also, pausing the game will highlight NPCs, creatures, and attackable items for easy perusal.
2 of 2: Always save before you try to copy spells to a character's spellbook, since a failure destroys the scroll without putting the spell in the book.
