Icewind Dale II Hints
Find the passage to the Underdark.
of 13: Once you get into the Black Raven Monastery, you need to talk to its acting leader, Aruma Blane, about the passage to the Underdark.
of 13: When you first enter the building, you will speak to Salisam Harbash, who's plotting to overthrown Aruma. He won't reveal this the first time you talk to him, though.
of 13: Go talk to Aruma and the Legion of the Chimera's messenger, Dolon Daemba. They're both in Aruma's office in the SE corner of the main floor.
of 13: Aruma will flat-out refuse to give you access to the tomb, so you're going to have to figure out a way to convince her to let you into it.
of 13: One way is to kill her and take the tomb key from her. Of course, this turns every monk in the entire monastery hostile to you. This is no problem if you've already decided to kill them all and report back to Barzam in the Hook Horror Lair (yes, you can get back there in this chapter) for a reward, though you might want to put that off a bit and do some of the quests around here first for more XP.
of 13: If you can't or don't want to kill off all the monks, you can instead convince Aruma to let you undergo the Eight Chambers trial, after which you'll be given access to the tomb without having to get the key.
of 13: Either way, you can find the tomb by taking the stairs that go down from the Eight Chambers room.
of 13: If you have the tomb key or permission to enter, the front door will open when you click on it.
of 13: You can optionally raid the Black Raven's tomb (if you want to mess with four iron golems), or you can just make your way to the gate that's along the north border of the area.
of 13: When you open the gate, a pack of duergar are waiting. They think you've been hired by the monks and will attack.
of 13: Also, if you didn't kill off Barud Barzam and his duergar in the Hook Horror Lair, they'll materialize behind you and attack, too!
of 13: If you can't handle all this at once, you might want to try finishing off Barzam and friends at the Hook Horror Lair before opening the gate here.
of 13: Anyway, once you've gotten them all and looted their treasure, proceed through the gate and on into the first Underdark area.
