Icewind Dale II Hints
How can I move around inside the fortress without being attacked?
1 of 7: You can't avoid the battle with Zigma and her troops when you first enter level 1 of the Severed Hand.
2 of 7: After that, no one in the immediate vicinity will attack you, including the glabrezu guard who's stationed near the exit. (Talk to him if you want to know why.)
3 of 7: However, you can't just explore and loot everywhere all the way up to the final battle free of opposition.
4 of 7: One way to cut down on the combats is to talk to Xavier Torsend, who's behind the door of the level 1 circular section that's due north.
5 of 7: Talk to him about everything you can to get some bonus XP, then ask him for a delegate pass.
6 of 7: He'll give you one, so be sure to keep it in your inventories for the rest of the game. There will still be some areas on the upper levels and towers that you can't enter peacefully, but the pass will cut down on gratuitous combat past level 2. (Except on level 3, where everyone attacks you on sight.)
7 of 7: For some bonus XP, talk to Jerre Stoh (SW room on level 1) and then talk to Torsend about the demon. You'll be able to convince him to resign by showing that the local "conscripted workers" are really slaves.
