Jack Keane Hints

How can I read the letter with the Queen's seal?

  • 1 of 17: First of all, you won't even be able to pick up the letter until you have distracted the manager and gained access to Jack's room.
  • 2 of 17: Once you have the manager out of the way, you can pick up and open the letter.
  • 3 of 17: Seems there's nothing on the page except the faint smell of lemon.
  • 4 of 17: Did you ever make these when you were younger? You paint a hidden message on paper in lemon juice, then heat the paper over a flame and the writing becomes clear.
  • 5 of 17: You need to put the letter over a flame.
  • 6 of 17: Unfortunately, the roaring fire in the hotel lobby won't do the trick -- you wouldn't be able to keep the paper from burning to a crisp.
  • 7 of 17: We need a much smaller, much more concentrated flame.
  • 8 of 17: Head up to Jack's room and look for something you can use to create a flame.
  • 9 of 17: Or, something that could put out a flame if it had some fuel inside.
  • 10 of 17: There's an oil lamp near the window. You just need some fuel for it, and a source of ignition.
  • 11 of 17: The fuel can be found down in the lobby.
  • 12 of 17: There's a can of turpentine here, and it's flammable. Take it with you and pour a small amount of it into the lamp.
  • 13 of 17: As for a source of ignition, look for a way to take some of the fire downstairs up to the bedroom.
  • 14 of 17: Head back out to the village, perhaps even towards the bluffs from back in Chapter III, and look for something you can use.
  • 15 of 17: There's been a fresh incense stick placed in the shrine just outside of town.
  • 16 of 17: Grab it, light it on the fireplace in the lobby of the Punjab Inn, then take it upstairs and use it on the lamp with turpentine in it.
  • 17 of 17: You can then hold the letter over the flame to read it.
