Jade Empire Hints

What if I refuse to help Master Smiling Hawk take over?

  • 1 of 12: This is the Open Palm path, so be prepared to earn some points toward that alignment.
  • 2 of 12: After your conversation with Master Smiling Hawk is over, go tell First Brother Kai about what he said.
  • 3 of 12: Then find Third Brother Renshan in the dining hall and challenge him to a fight.
  • 4 of 12: Even though his attacks can disorient you, he shouldn't be too hard to beat if you use focus mode or the Storm Dragon style to let you keep hitting him without him hitting you back very often.
  • 5 of 12: After he goes down, you'll be taken to see Master Radiant, who turns out to be a ghost due to Master Smiling Hawk having murdered him in his sleep.
  • 6 of 12: Agree to kill Master Smiling Hawk, then go to his room south of the dining hall.
  • 7 of 12: When you go inside, he'll talk to you, then kick you through a wall.
  • 8 of 12: Fortunately, he's not too much tougher than the average "boss" baddie, and can be easily dispatched with your weapon if you've been spending style points on it, and if you have plenty of focus energy. (Storm Dragon is also good for paralyzing him briefly.)
  • 9 of 12: There is the catch that he'll suck in the Third Brother's life force to replenish his own after you beat him down a bit. However, you can just repeat the beat-down process to finish him off for good.
  • 10 of 12: After he's dead, Master Radiant will give you the Heaven's Blessing gem (Damage Shield) and teach you the Paralyzing Palm style.
  • 11 of 12: Then First Brother Kai will give you the Rote of the Endless Mind technique (Focus +5, Chi +5) and the Gem of Inner Genius (Mind +10, Body -5, Spirit -5).
  • 12 of 12: You can also talk to First Brother Kai to get tough practice fights with him, but you'll get no XP or other reward for winning.
