1 of 2: There are two scrollstands that you can read for XP, a pile of bones you can raid for silver coins, a chest you can open to get a Dragon Amulet gem and the Structured Body technique, another chest that you can get the "Iron Palm - The Anvil" scroll from, and a spirit font.
2 of 2: The gem you get from a chest is random, so save before you open the chest and keep trying until you get a gem you really want. (Note that you sometimes keep getting the same gem over and over, but not always.)
