Jade Empire Hints
Explore the Pirate Lair
of 22: After you talk Ru into helping you, go down to the very SE end of town to find him standing right at the green star labeled "Ru's Barge" on the area map.
of 22: After you arrive at the pirate lair, move down the path to witness a cut-scene.
of 22: Past a spirit font, you'll come across a spot where Pirate Cheung is trying to drop a cannon to kill a few pirates.
of 22: After the pirates are dead, talk to Pirate Cheung and then make your way north along the walkway.
of 22: There are a whole lot of pirates to fight at once in the warehouse area that you soon come to, so you may need to first run back to the spirit font to heal, or even *all* the way back to Tien's Landing to get your focus power restored, too.
of 22: After they're down, read the nearby scrollstand, use the focus shrine, and break the vase near the focus shrine before moving on down the path that leads south.
of 22: You'll soon reach a cave where a guy named Sky draws you into a pirate fight, then asks for your help in opening a nearby door.
of 22: Go through the newly opened door to find another tough fight with disorienting pirates.
of 22: Open the trapped chest next to the spirit font before using it to heal, then run on up to where you'll overhear a lengthy conversation that involves Gao the Greater and Inquisitor Lim.
of 22: Go around to where you can enter the building and fight a few pirates.
of 22: After Kang the Mad agrees to help you, raid the nearby chest, then run up the ramp and make a right turn. (If you go left, you can lower a small bridge that leads back to the building you just exited.)
of 22: Go up to where there are more pirates to fight and another chest to loot.
of 22: From there, you can go NW to the optional "Slave Breaker" area if you want to finish the "Yifong and Fuyao" subquest. Otherwise, skip it and take the path leading NE to reach another standard pirate fight.
of 22: After that, you'll come to the entrance to a workshop area. Be sure to go back and visit the nearest spirit font and focus shrine before entering, since there are two tough combats inside.
of 22: After that's over, look around the workshop area to find a bookstand, two scrollstands, a bamboo cask, and a chest.
of 22: There are also huge southern doors that you can't just walk up to and open. They lead to Gao's treasure room, so you'll probably want to open them to get at the treasure.
of 22: Go out the workshop's west door and move along the pathways until you reach the building where Gao the Greater has retreated to mourn for his son.
of 22: Needless to say, he and his guards will attack you when you enter and he identifies you as his son's killer.
of 22: As usual, I advise using your weapon and focus mode to quickly hack Gao down, then finish off the rest.
of 22: After it's over and you've spoken to Sky, look around to find a bookshelf inside the building that'll give you Strength of Wood technique if you've been reading all of the bookshelves so far, a couple of chests inside the building, and a lootable bonsai tree outside the building.
of 22: Return to the workshop and talk to Kang, who'll fly you back to town on the dragonfly as soon as you're ready to go.
of 22: As before, when you take off, you can choose to either attack the enemies and play the flyer mini-game or evade them and not play the mini-game. (It's pretty fun and easy this time, so you might as well play it.)
