Jade Empire Hints
The Outlander
of 15: You get this quest by talking to the insulting guy in the center part of the Golden Way area until the Minister of Culture talks to you about the annoying outlander.
of 15: To find the outlander in question, go to the Scholars' Garden and head down to its southern end.
of 15: Approach the group of people gathered down there to speak with Sir Roderick.
of 15: After you accept his challenge to a debate, talk to the five nearby people who will act as judges during the debate.
of 15: They are the Minister of Culture, Scholar Heng, Scholar Zou, Scholar Cai, and Scholar Gu.
of 15: Ask each one what kind of arguments he favors to learn something about the other judges' favorite argument types.
of 15: After you've noted all that down, you can use the information to help you sway judges over to your side during the debate.
of 15: When you're ready to start, talk to Sir Roderick.
of 15: During the debate, remember that using the same argument type twice will turn the judges who prefer that type of argument back against you.
of 15: You can probably win by randomly choosing a different argument type each time, but there is a surer way.
of 15: After the debate, you'll have to fight Sir Roderick and his blast-iferous blunderbuss before you can claim your reward.
of 15: Using a weapon style with focus mode can help you easily win, as can using the Storm Dragon style to stun Sir Roderick so you can easily power-attack him.
of 15: When the combat is over, you can choose to take his blunderbuss (and a corresponding weapon style), get a technique that'll give you a +3 to one of your primary attributes, or get a Dragon Amulet gem that adds 6 to all of your conversation skills.
of 15: The gun sounds good, but is hampered by a long reload time and huge focus energy requirements. However, if you're willing to invest enough style points to fully upgrade it, it can be well worth it (and lots of fun, too).
of 15: After Sir Roderick leaves, talk to the Minister of Culture to get another reward of silver and XP.
