2 of 8: Before you enter the cave that's just north of the main mercenary camp, be sure to go back and use the nearest spirit font and focus shrine to return to full charge. (Also, loot the two bamboo casks that are next to the building and the bones that are to the right of the flying machine.)
3 of 8: After Gao carelessly blocks a tunnel in the cave, you can either go straight for the narrow passage that leads north, or you can check the east and west side caves for ogres and treasure.
4 of 8: In the cave chamber to the north, quickly hack up the toad demon to gain the Toad Demon style. It's good for breaking free of effects like paralyzed and frozen, so make it a quick style right away. (See the "Quick Styles" section in the game manual.)
5 of 8: When you enter the cave room north of that, you'll have to fight Gao and his fiery magic.
6 of 8: Before you do, run back and use a spirit font and focus shrine to get back up to full power.
7 of 8: Use your weapon and focus mode to quickly weaken Gao, then keep flipping around and healing yourself when necessary to avoid his worst attacks and finish him off.
8 of 8: Also, it's possible to get either Sagacious Zu or Dawn Star to fight with you if you choose the right dialogue option.
