How do I catch the beast?

  • 1 of 9: Well, first you need a trap.
  • 2 of 9: You're surrounded by easily-hewn wood here (look through the archway at right) --
  • 3 of 9: -- but you can't hew without an axe.
  • 4 of 9: Now Faust says he needs some rope so he can spring the trap from a distance.
  • 5 of 9: Now you need some bait. But what?
  • 6 of 9: Did you notice the many-armed statue in the bamboo woods?
  • 7 of 9: Faust says that villagers used to sacrifice dogs to this goddess. Hmm...
  • 8 of 9: Okay, you have trap, rope, and bait. Now you need something strong-smelling to attract the beast.
  • 9 of 9: Now just wait. Once the beast is trapped, go back to the tavern and talk to the barmaid.
