Jewels of the Oracle II -- Gems of Darkness Hints
Easter Eggs
Something new to Jewels of the Oracle -- and to many games of this type -- is the addition of "Easter Eggs" throughout the game. Many games contain "Easter Eggs" -- hidden treats that typically provide a respite from game play, and range from listing the names of the game's developers to actually including "mini-games" within the main game.
The Easter Eggs in JOTO II are quite organized. In fact, there are 16 of them, scattered throughout the 24 puzzles. Most are easy to "find" as they involve no convoluted user entry (e.g., "Hold down the Shift key while pressing Ctrl+S+A and double-right-clicking the mouse over the purple dot."). Instead, they are activated by simply clicking on a "hot spot" within the puzzle's environment.
(There are actually two other places in the game where apparently "unrelated" actions take place as a result of clicking on a "hotspot". These are not included under "Easter Eggs" primarily because these two provide necessary clues to other puzzles, while the "Easter Eggs" are unrelated to any of the puzzles.)
Finding the Easter Eggs is not required for solving the puzzles. But it does provide some interesting -- and often humorous, or graphically pleasing -- changes of pace from some of the more intensive brain games.
