Rhythms in the Wind

  • 1 of 16: Rhythms in the Wind is a puzzle of auditory recognition.
  • 2 of 16: Have you ever played the game "Simon"?
  • 3 of 16: Listen to the entire introduction.
  • 4 of 16: The puzzle begins after you hear a gong strike.
  • 5 of 16: It is critical during the introduction to be able to aurally distinguish the six musical instruments.
  • 6 of 16: Each piece of the puzzle consists of from 3 to 6 instruments played in succession.
  • 7 of 16: After the segment has played, can you repeat it?
  • 8 of 16: You begin with three gargoyles in a column of five blocks.
  • 9 of 16: Each puzzle segment you get correct removes a gargoyle.
  • 10 of 16: Each puzzle segment you get incorrect adds a gargoyle.
  • 11 of 16: Filling the column terminates the puzzle.
  • 12 of 16: The puzzle will be solved when you have cleared the column of all gargoyles.
  • 13 of 16: Try making some identification between the original six sounds and a simpler memory scheme -- such as numbering.
  • 14 of 16: For example, the first sound -- the flute and strings -- might be '1', while the drums (heard fourth) might be '4'.
  • 15 of 16: When puzzle segments are played, remember them by your numbering scheme (e.g., 1, 5, 2, 3).
  • 16 of 16: The sequences are random, so there is no fixed solution. You'll have to listen carefully.
