Keepsake Hints
Using the Hint System
While some puzzles can be solved in a random order, most puzzles need to be solved in a specific order. Fortunately, the game has built in a way to help gamers determine the proper order that the various puzzles need to be solved. Anytime when you are *not* in a close-up view of an object or puzzle in the academy, you can click on the purple question mark at the bottom left of the screen for a hint as to where you should go next. Sometimes using the question mark will also reveal *what* you should do next. Although there are many times when this is valuable -- and necessary -- information to have, be forewarned that you obtain a little too much information on occasion (which may even be a good thing for you -- if you're the type of person who enjoys assembling jigsaw puzzles more by comparing the puzzle pieces to the picture on the box).
The UHS hints are arranged to follow the same order of puzzles and tasks that are shown on the "what do I solve next?" hints described above. The hints at the top of the list are the first ones that should be solved, working down progressively to the last hint to be solved, positioned at the bottom.
If the hint system mentions a specific location that you need to visit, this can often be a "trigger" that is necessary before it will be possible to solve other puzzles elsewhere in the game. Since some of these locations can be tricky to navigate to, details on how to find some of the trickier locations can be found in the section: "How can I find a specific location?"
When you are *in* a close-up of a puzzle, you can also click on the purple question mark. Only this time, it will either tell you that you don't have all the prerequisites to solve the puzzle, or it will offer one of a series of hints (three levels of hints per puzzle) regarding the solution to the puzzle. This feature should be used cautiously, since there are times when the hints provided within the game don't provide enough details to help you solve it on your own; yet at other times the hints provide too much information too fast. The final hint will solve the puzzle for you. Sometimes, when you allow the game to solve a puzzle for you, it will show you the complete solution; at other times, it will just end the puzzle, as if it were solved. This feature can be handy at times when you are sooo... stuuuck! that you no longer care what the solution is; however, you should use this feature carefully, since it detracts from the overall gameplay.
