The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine Hints

Spell Tomes

  • 1 of 10: This is the one downloadable content (DLC) module that doesn't ever give you a quest entry.
  • 2 of 10: That's because there's no quest involved. Instead, it's now possible to find spell tomes in random, leveled treasure where you would otherwise find spell scrolls.
  • 3 of 10: Spell tomes work similarly to the skill training books. Open a tome in inventory to get the option to learn its spell.
  • 4 of 10: NOTE: The window that pops up asking you if you want to learn the spell partially covers up the spell description, so you might want to say no, then close and reopen the tome if you decide you want to learn the spell.
  • 5 of 10: After you learn a tome's spell, you can cast it at any time provided you have enough magicka points and a high enough rating in the related magic skill.
  • 6 of 10: Tomes aren't used up when you learn spells from them, so you can also sell them to merchants to make some money.
  • 7 of 10: Some few tomes have new spell effects in them, such as the Pride of Hirstaang Tome, which includes a Summon Bear spell. Also, some tomes can be used to learn cheaper (lower-level) versions of spells than you could find for sale anywhere, thereby allowing you to enchant and spellmake with those spells without raising your skills.
  • 8 of 10: Unfortunately, there are no fixed locations for tomes. They're all random and leveled, so level up as much as you can and keep an eye out for tomes.
  • 9 of 10: Having this module active also gives you a secret gimmick for getting lots of free spells.
  • 10 of 10: Another thing this module does is make it possible for a conjurer to appear and interrupt you sometimes when you try to wait for a long time at once (like 24 hours) in an outdoor area.
