The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine Hints
Horse Armor
of 9: After this module is installed, you'll get a "Horse Armor" quest entry when you load a saved game or start a new game and reach the point where the emperor is killed.
of 9: Ride the horse you want to put armor on to the Chestnut Handy Stables just west of the Imperial City.
of 9: NOTE: The horse has to be one that you own, not one that you stole. Besides, you wouldn't want to armor up a stolen horse that would abandon you at the first opportunity, anyway.
of 9: Dismount and talk to the orc woman, Snak gra-Bura, inside the stable building.
of 9: Tell her you're there about the horse armor, then choose either steel or elven armor. (It doesn't really matter which.)
of 9: The first time you do this, the armor will be free. However, if you want to armor another horse or change the armor type on your current horse, it'll cost 500 gold.
of 9: No matter which type of armor you choose, your horse's hit points will be greatly increased by it. (Shadowmere and white horses will have a huge 750 hit points with armor!)
of 9: NOTE: If you go to gra-Bura when you don't own any horses at all, you can get a free horse with your free armor, but it'll just be a slow, weak old nag. It's best to buy a quality horse (or get Prior Maborel's paint horse in an early main quest) and then claim your free armor.
of 9: NOTE: An armored horse will never automatically return to his place of origin, even if he gets badly injured in combat or you start riding another horse. You'll have to remember where you left him if you ever want to find him again.
