King's Quest I Hints
General KQ1 Tips
SAVE OFTEN! (And in different game slots.) In these early Sierra games, you die every couple minutes in the most unexpected ways. When you're not busy dying, you can also lose your inventory to nogoodnik dwarves, or you can forget to take a crucial item which you may need later in the game.
Also, to save yourself furied moments of boredom where you're just searching for one screen, either draw a map or refer to the ones given in this file. You also should stick to the edges of the screen. Witches, wolves, warlocks, and other baddies have a harder time reaching you that way.
Finally, if you're waiting for characters (like elves, birds, fairy godmothers, etc.) to appear on a screen, a way to make them appear more quickly is to increase the game speed and then to leave and come back to the particular screen. Be sure to put the speed back to normal later, though! NB: Some characters won't appear until you have completed certain puzzles.
