How do I get the characters I want in Free Play?
1 of 4: The game will choose most of your team for you, and it does a pretty good job; it always gives you one of every major skill among the characters you have available.
2 of 4: This doesn't mean it always chooses well. For example, the Enemy Officer and the Bazooka Trooper both have the ability to blow things up, but the Officer has a grenade he throws and you then have to wait for it to regenerate; the Trooper has a bazooka that can shoot and shoot again with barely a pause. Also, there's at least one chest that requires a guy with a sword (Chest 8 - Free Play in Temple of the Grail), and the game almost never gives you a sword guy of its own volition.
3 of 4: The game will only let you choose one of the characters you take into Free Play, but there's a way to choose two.
4 of 4: Select the level you want and pick the first character and select it, then back up before the level starts. Toggle over to the other character and select the level again. Now select the second character you want and start the level for real.
