Do I have to use a game pad?
No, you don't, though you can if you want. Which one is best is a matter of which one you're the most comfortable with. I played the entire game on the keyboard, and I didn't have any trouble with it at all -- whereas if I'd been forced to use a game pad, I'd have been intensely frustrated because I'm just not used to one.
