Law & Order 3: Justice is Served Hints

How do I decide what items to pick up and whether to analyze it?

  • Unlike the previous games, you can't pick stuff up unless it's relevant, and there's no limit to the size of your inventory. So if you *can* pick something up, do so.

It can sometimes be difficult to decide whether to send a piece of evidence to the Lab or to Research. In general, the Lab will analyze an item's physical characteristics and look for physical evidence like fingerprints. Research will research an item's significance or background. Remember, you can also research people -- their background or criminal record -- by submitting them to Research.

You'll use Surveillance much less often, and Psychiatric even less. The game will often subtly cue you to ask for surveillance by showing a conversation between the principals of the show saying something about needing more information about a person. The only reason to ask for a psychiatric report is for court, so you only need to get one on the perpetrator. Besides, people can always refuse the request (as long as they're not under arrest).

There's no limit to how much stuff you can have analyzed, so when in doubt send everything to both Lab and Research. Having stuff analyzed unnecessarily may cost you a point or two, but not enough to keep you from winning.
