1 of 2: Nothing shows up until someone tells you about it.
2 of 2: Of course, if a place has been mentioned and you can't find it on the map, it's possible that (like me) you didn't notice that the map scrolls down. The lower half of Manhattan is revealed when you scroll. (Doh!)
