The Lost Crown: A Ghost-Hunting Adventure Hints
How can I find the missing notes?
of 17: It would certainly help if we could hear a recording of the complete set of notes played, wouldn't it?
of 17: Take a look around the church and see if there is any way that we can do just that.
of 17: There is, in fact, a gramophone on the table, down the first aisle of pews.
of 17: Turn the crank handle on the side of it, and you will be able to hear the musical notes in question.
of 17: Now we need a way to compare that recording to the notebook. It would help to have a record of the audio in our inventory.
of 17: So, use your audio recorder on the gramophone to record the scale.
of 17: Now you need to work out what the two missing notes are.
of 17: We know that the scale in the book goes as follows: F#, A, an unknown note, B, A#, an unknown note, D.
of 17: Now compare the missing notes' pitches to the notes around them, and work out what notes they are.
of 17: The first missing note is lower than the second note, but higher than the first.
of 17: There is a diagram of a keyboard on the organ which you can use if you are not musically-trained.
of 17: The note between F# and A must either be G, or G#. You can try playing both of those notes on the keyboard and comparing them in your own mind to work out which note is correctly pitches.
of 17: The first missing note is a G.
of 17: Now, repeat the process for the second missing note.
of 17: The second tone is lower than the one that preceded it. There are only two notes we can play lower than a D.
of 17: The note must be either a C, or a C#. So, go play those two and work out which it is.
