Hanoi Minigame

  • 1 of 11: I call this minigame the Hanoi minigame because it works somewhat similarly to the classic Towers of Hanoi puzzle.
  • 2 of 11: You'll start out with a stack of four pieces in the left column that you'll need to move to either the middle or right column.
  • 3 of 11: To move the top piece from any column that has one or more pieces in it, click on that column's heading and then on the heading of the column you want to move the piece to. (On the Xbox, you will see the columns labeled with the X, Y, and B buttons, and pressing A exits.)
  • 4 of 11: You can only move a piece to a column that doesn't already have any pieces in it that are smaller than the one you're moving.
  • 5 of 11: To move all four pieces to column 2 or 3, you'll have to do some serious "juggling."
  • 6 of 11: One way to look at it is to use what I call the "bottom up" approach.
  • 7 of 11: Following is an exact solution that uses the "bottom up" approach to move the pieces from column 1 to column 3. (Or for the Xbox, from X to B. I believe X to Y will also work as well, just as long as you move the entire stack to one of the other two columns.)
  • 8 of 11: The solution is listed as a series of column number pairs. Click on the first column number in a pair, then on the second column number in the pair. That'll get one move made. (For Xbox, the button letters are used instead.)
  • 9 of 11: To move the bottom piece from column 1 to column 3, use the following moves: 1->2, 1->3, 2->3, 1->2, 3->1, 3->2, 1->2, 1->3. (On the Xbox, this is X->Y, X->B, Y->B, X->Y, B->X, B->Y, X->Y, X->B.)
  • 10 of 11: To move the next-to-bottom piece to column 3, use the following moves: 2->3, 2->1, 3->1, 2->3. (Y->B, Y->X, B->X, Y->B.)
  • 11 of 11: To finish up, use these three last moves: 1->2, 1->3, 2->3. (X->Y, X->B, Y->B.)
