Mass Effect Hints
What if I really want to get max XP from *all* enemies?
of 10: Then you're in for a heck of a time, especially with enemies like geth colossi and thresher maws.
of 10: However, there is a way you can get max XP from all of them, though it's tricky and dangerous.
of 10: Knock a big enemy's health down to just a small fraction using the Mako's guns, then get out on foot and quickly finish the job with the assault rifle or sniper rifle before you can come under attack.
of 10: One trick that can help with certain large enemies (especially geth armatures and colossi) is to ram them after getting their health way down, then quickly stop the Mako and get out so you can shoot them to death before they can get back up.
of 10: It can be kind of tricky to get a big enemy's health down to almost nothing using the Mako's guns without accidentally killing it. However, it's doable if you refrain from using the cannon after the enemy's health gets fairly low -- just use the machine gun until it's down to where you feel confident you can finish the job on foot.
of 10: Things get really tricky when there are several enemies in an area together, especially since you have to concentrate on one of them at a time. You have to drive close enough to your current target to get a readout on its health (so you'll know when it's almost dead), and you'll undoubtedly be coming under fire from every other enemy around while you do that.
of 10: Do your best to isolate enemies, and to always target one that's on the fringes of the enemy-occupied area. Keep firing on it and retreating to avoid fire until its health is low enough, then quickly get out of the Mako and finish it off.
of 10: Get back into the Mako as fast as you can, then pick your next target and repeat. It's a *lot* of extra trouble, but you'll be getting a lot of extra XP, which is especially important early in the game, before you start doing some of the tougher later-game missions.
of 10: If you'd rather keep far away from an enemy while attacking it, you'll have to guess how much Mako fire it can take before dying. If you guess wrong, you'll either kill it early and get less XP, or you'll have to shoot it for awhile on foot before it'll die. However, you may find this to be the best way to deal with large enemies that are part of a group.
of 10: NOTE: I got all the way up to level 55 on one playthru by always using these tips to maximize XP (and by doing all the optional assignments, etc.). It still isn't possible to make it to level 60 in one playthru, since it's such slow going to get from level 55 to level 60. (It takes 200,000 XP alone to get from level 59 to level 60!)
