Collection Assignments
In collection assignments, the goal is to go around collecting all you can of a certain thing. You get these assignments added to your journal the first time you collect a related item, and they're considered completed after you collect a certain number of those items (not necessarily all of them). You'll be able to collect some of these items just by surveying planets from space, but others can only be found by landing on planetary surfaces and exploring in your Mako.
As a general rule, you'll receive rewards each time you find any of these objects, but there's no additional XP or credit bonus for finding the last one that puts you over the top for any given assignment. If you're a completionist, you'll probably want to finish these all, if only to clear off your unfinished assignment list, but you may not find it worth the rewards to look too carefully for that very last item if you're trying to rush through the game.
