Mass Effect Hints
Proceed On Foot
of 13: The idea here is that the Mako is too big to drive through the minefield without getting blown up, so you'll need to park it near the minefield's well-marked perimeter and proceed on foot.
of 13: Not only do you have to worry about the hyper-sensitive blasting caps, but there are several batarians near the building who will start attacking you soon after you enter the minefield.
of 13: The best way to handle this situation is to drive the Mako around to where it's south and a bit east of the facility building, then park and get out on foot.
of 13: Enter the minefield near where you parked, then slowly crouch-walk toward the left (west) side of the building with your best sniping weapon out.
of 13: Stop as soon as you see batarians run into view ahead of you, and start sniping at them (and dodging their rockets).
of 13: After you get all of them that run into view, turn left (west) and go uphill along the perimeter of the minefield until you can get a better view of the front of the building.
of 13: Snipe down all the batarians that you see, then keep going west along the minefield perimeter until you've got a good enough view of the front of the building that you're satisfied there aren't any batarians left.
of 13: TIP: Only you can set off the blasting caps. They'll totally ignore your squad members, so you can order them to run up to the building to see if they can spot any remaining batarians.
of 13: Run back east along the minefield's perimeter until you reach the spot where the perimeter markers start going up the slope that leads to the big fusion torch device.
of 13: Stand next to the lowest marker on the slope and turn to face the building. If you go from that marker straight toward the building's back right corner (the corner nearest you), you should make it without setting off any blasting caps.
of 13: You can then go along the building's right side to get to the front, where you'll find the blasting cap control panel. (And any batarians that you missed earlier.)
of 13: Use the control panel, then either play a Decryption Minigame or spend some omni-gel to disable all of the blasting caps.
of 13: You can now run around in the minefield and drive the Mako through it safely.
