Mass Effect 2 Hints
A Note About These Hints
Just about everything you can do in this game is part of either a mission or an assignment, so this hint file is organized around those two things.
Missions are the required plot-related "quests" that you must complete in order to progress through the game. This hint file organizes missions into numbered sections which are named either for the major task or the location of the missions within that section. The sections are listed in the order that you can first get their starting missions, and you usually have to finish all of a section's missions before you can move on to the next section. Starting with Part 3, you can refer to the "Stop the Collectors" mission hints for guidelines on how best to complete each section,
Assignments are always optional, and are mainly good for extra credits, upgrades, and XP. I divide them up into two sections called "Early Assignments" and "Later Assignments." You can do all the early ones as soon as you get the new Normandy, but the later ones have to be put off until you do more missions. Note that some of them have to be done during certain missions, and can't ever be finished if you miss whatever it is on that mission that you need for the assignment.
Most mission and assignment hints consist of info on how to get the mission or assignment followed by a list of objectives that need to be done (usually in the order listed). However, missions that have only one objective won't be done that way -- they'll just have a single set of hints with a note at the top telling you what your journal will list as the objective name.
NOTE: There's a separate mission concept that closely overlaps the missions given in your journal, but doesn't always match up with them exactly. When you look at your list of saved games, you'll notice that many saves are named according to the "mission" you're on -- not the name of the mission in the journal, but the name of the other type of mission, which is usually the same as the name of the region you're in. After such a mission is over, you'll get a summary screen that you can use to review the mission and see what all you got from it. (The same goes for assignments.)
