1 of 3: Take cover wherever you can and shoot the mechs down in groups, waiting for your shields to fully regenerate after each combat.
2 of 3: Try to find cover that'll fully protect you for when your shields need regenerating during combat. You won't be able to save your game until after you get back aboard the Normandy.
3 of 3: A sandstorm will reduce visibility more and more as you near the shuttle, but don't let it rush you. It won't get too bad, and you'll get killed if you try to move ahead too fast.
