How can I take them down without being shredded by their turret?
1 of 4: The best way is probably to stay in your starting cover position and shoot from there.
2 of 4: Take aim at a trooper (or, better yet, the combat engineer who set up the turret) and shoot him several times quickly with a pistol or sniper rifle. Duck back into cover when your shields get low and wait for them to regenerate.
3 of 4: It's also fairly easy to move your view around while staying in cover so you can order your squad to use powers against the troopers.
4 of 4: Once the turret is all that's left, shoot it to pieces. (Note that if you'd done so earlier, the combat engineer might've just set up another one. In fact, he might anyway, giving you multiple turrets to take out.)
