Mass Effect 3 Hints
Which class should I pick?
1 of 7: As in previous Mass Effect games, your class determines which powers you have for use during combat. The difference is that it no longer determines which weapons you can use.
2 of 7: However, note that each weapon you take with you on a mission will weigh you down a certain amount, which affects the cooldown period on all of your powers. Just because adept characters can carry and use all five types of weapons doesn't mean they'll want to -- their biotic powers would take much longer to cool down after use.
3 of 7: As in previous games, there are three "pure" classes and three "mixed" or "split" classes to choose from.
4 of 7: The three pure classes are soldiers (combat powers), engineers (tech powers), and adepts (biotic powers).
5 of 7: The three mixed classes are equivalent to multiclassed characters in fantasy RPGs. Each one has some but not all of the powers of two specific pure classes, plus a unique power that neither of the pure classes has.
6 of 7: Specifically, infiltrators are soldier/engineers with the unique Tactical Cloak power, sentinels are engineer/adepts with the unique Tech Armor power, and vanguards are soldier/adepts with the unique Biotic Charge and Nova powers.
7 of 7: If you're not sure what to choose, you should probably go with a soldier if you prefer ranged combat or a vanguard if you prefer melee combat. The other classes can take more getting used to, and probably shouldn't be chosen on your first playthru unless you're very familiar with them from previous games in the series.
