Midnight Nowhere Hints

Okay, what?! (Warning: Spoilers!)

  • 1 of 4: TELL me about it. Let's see if we can make some sense of the plot here.
  • 2 of 4: Your character is Gorin, a clone of Belov, a crime boss of some sort. Belov apparently planted you in the FSS to be an inside agent for him, after which he got sent to the Deep Freeze. Meanwhile, you got Yuriy Stepanovich Hurtsmee, the hospital administrator, to sign your death certificate to let you hide out in the morgue for a while. Being in a body bag apparently triggered some sort of amnesia in you. Throughout the game, Belov's boys have been manipulating you to get you to release Belov from the Deep Freeze; and when you do, he puts you in his place so he's free to wreak havoc again. The Executioner and all the bodies he's been leaving around are still unknown. At any rate, that's how I read it.
  • 3 of 4: But! That last little flashback sequence before Belov put Gorin in the Deep Freeze seems to imply that *Gorin* is the Executioner. That would certainly explain how everyone around him died but he didn't. It doesn't explain how he was able to kill people while locked up in a jail cell, or how Belov was able to order Gorin to do anything at all while he was in Deep Freeze, or why Whip didn't recognize him when he's seen the Executioner, or any of a hundred other plot holes.
  • 4 of 4: Like I said at the beginning, it's probably best to think of the whole thing as an allegory of Chernobyl.
