Mysterious Journey II Hints

Water Garden: What do I do at the pond of flowers?

  • 1 of 22: Take a ride in the nearby "elevator" -- you should find a spot that overlooks the pond.  From here, take a moment to study the flowers in the pond.
  • 2 of 22: The flowers are growing in an unusual, maze-like pattern.
  • 3 of 22: Notice the sail-boat at the far end of the pond?
  • 4 of 22: You'll need to bring the sail-boat to the nearby dock (not as easy as it may at first seem).
  • 5 of 22: Have you tried the small levers on the control bar -- the ones with steam coming out of them?  What happened as a result?
  • 6 of 22: You'll need to use the wind from the statues to move the sail-boat.  Notice that each time the wind is shut off, one puff of air disappears on the controls.  These puffs indicate how many times you can use each control.  There are a very limited number of uses for each direction of wind, so plan your moves carefully.  Note: to reset the levers and the sail-boat, use the larger lever at the end of the left control bar.
  • 7 of 22: It can be helpful to map out the flower-maze on paper.  Some parts are difficult to see.  If in doubt about how to map a specific spot, bring the sail-boat to the spot in question and use the movements of the boat to check the details.  The maze can easily be plotted on graph-paper.
  • 8 of 22: At first, it may seem as though there aren't enough instances of the wind controls to solve the maze.  Experiment with the controls to see if you can figure out any new tricks that could help.
  • 9 of 22: Have you tried to activate a second statue while the first one is still blowing?
  • 10 of 22: Note that you cannot activate an additional wind if the boat is already moving.  Therefore, if the first wind causes the boat to move, you'll need to wait until the boat stops before activating the second wind.  If you would like two winds to be blowing at the same time, make sure that the first wind activated cannot move the boat.  This can only happen if the boat is already pressed against some flowers or a rock wall in that direction.
  • 11 of 22: Watch how the boat moves with two winds activated -- it moves in either of two possible directions.  In order to control exactly where the boat does and does not travel, you shall need to plan your moves carefully to figure out which wind should be activated first.
  • 12 of 22: Note that it is also possible to have three of the winds activated at once.
  • 13 of 22: When two opposite winds are blowing, the two opposing winds cancel each other out and the boat reacts as though those two winds are not blowing at all.  Because the number of moves for each wind is very limited, this technique can be used instead of shutting off the wind, since it makes it possible to re-use one direction of wind later.
  • 14 of 22: This maze differs from other mazes.  While the paths of other mazes are visibly blocked, this maze actually presents more than one usable path.  Your limitation is in whether or not there is enough air available to travel the path in question.
  • 15 of 22: The path you need to focus on is around the outer perimeter of the maze -- generally up and to the right to get to the top corner, then across the top to the right corner, and from there to following the side to get to the bottom.
  • 16 of 22: The controls have four different sections.  For the remainder of this solution, consider that the far left lever is numbered 1; the next one is 2, etc.  Begin by activating number 1, then 2.
  • 17 of 22: Shut down number 2, and activate number 4.
  • 18 of 22: Activate number 3.  Deactivate number 4.
  • 19 of 22: Activate 2 again, shut down number 3.
  • 20 of 22: Activate number 3.  Shut down number 1.
  • 21 of 22: Deactivate number 2, activate number 4.
  • 22 of 22: Deactivate number 4, activate number 2.  Once the puzzle is complete, the boat will be close enough for you to use.  Simply go back down the stairs and to the dock.
