Mysterious Journey II Hints
What do I do at the top of the Tower?
of 18: Notice all the telescopes? There is one on every platform -- except for one platform, where there are two. The telescopes are each pointing at a different portal along the suspended walkway.
of 18: If you have not already done so, you might want to take a walk out onto the suspended walkway, just to get a close-up view of what you're looking at through the telescopes. After you've looked through the telescopes, you should also be able to walk through the portals and see the closed door at the end of the path. There must be a way to open the door....
of 18: Experiment with a telescope to see how it works. There are two filters -- one on each side of the telescope -- and clicking on a filter will move it in front of the telescope. The top button takes the filter out again, the bottom button turns the portal.
of 18: Do you remember what the last companion said about the filters?
of 18: One always shows the correct colors; one always shows the colors in reverse.
of 18: It is not possible to tell the filters apart, nor is it possible to keep them separate.
of 18: Every time you move away from a telescope, the filters get mixed up -- the one which was placed on the left earlier might be on the left again next time, or it could be on the right instead. There is no way to predict where the filters will be placed.
of 18: You'll need to figure out a way to see a consistent image through the telescope.
of 18: One of the filters is dominant over the other.
of 18: If you place both filters in the telescope at the same time, you'll always see a consistent image, regardless of which filter is placed on either side.
of 18: But that still won't tell you how to set the portals correctly. The companion that gave you the filters also gave you a clue about the correct setting for the portals.
of 18: The companion said to always go through the red.
of 18: From the companion's clue, we know that all the side of the portal that we need to walk through should be set to red. However, there is no way of telling, from the clues within the game, which of the filters is dominant over the other one, so at this point, we don't know whether the side of the portal that we will walk through will look red when correctly set; or whether it will look blue. (If the dominant filter is the one that shows things correctly, the half of the portal to walk through will look red; if the dominant filter is the one that always shows things incorrectly, then the half of the portal to walk through will look blue.)
of 18: We do know, however, to set all the portals to the same color. Using both filters at once, turn all the portals until it is possible to always walk through the same color. Note that half of the portal is always blocked (on the path), so you'll need to make sure that you rotate the portals to the correct orientation.
of 18: Be especially careful on the platform with two telescopes. One of the telescopes is aimed at a different angle and shows the portal from the reverse direction.
of 18: Next, you'll have to test if the portals are set correctly by walking through all of them. You'll need to go back down to the fifth floor to access the pathway. Note that you'll be able to pass through all portals -- even ones set incorrectly. So you must travel right to the end before you'll know whether or not the setting is correct.
of 18: The dominant filter is the one that shows things incorrectly.
of 18: The correct setting of the portals is to set them so that the outer half (the side that you would walk through) appears to be blue when both filters are being used.
